A Market for local producers opens up in the Old Port
May 31, 2017 / Posted by SDC Vieux-Montréal
Located directly on the riverboard, the Marché des Éclusiers has dedicated itself to building a community showcasing local products from Québec. This year, the market was redesigned to offer customers from the district – and outside it – fresh, locally grown produce on a regular basis.
The idea was developed by a community of producers, merchants and consumers who all seek to raise awareness towards a healthy diet consisting of locally grown produce. This year, they are building on the concept of slow food by offering passersby a variety of produce from honest and reliable sources – without the use of intermediaries. This way, customers and producers will see real advantages to their food choices.
The farmers’ market will be welcoming produce farmers Thursdays from 2:00PM to 7:00PM and Saturdays from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. It will feature 8 tents with many categories of produce, notably: fruits and vegetables, meats, flowers, cheeses, organic soaps, sauces and condiments, fermenting products, breads, pies, and much more! Among the producers onsite you’ll find, among others: the Ferme des Quatre-Temps, les Jardins Carya, the Ferme Lauzon, au Grès des Champs, Tout Cru!, Gordz hot sauce, Oh So Vegan !, and the Home Field Farm.
A bonus commercial offer
In addition to hosting local producers, the Marché des Éclusiers will welcome several businesses who were specifically chosen over the last year for their commitment to offering high-quality, locally sourced products. Discover them right here.
About the Marché des Éclusiers
Echo Vergil and Devin DeSousa, owners of the Fabergé restaurant, spearheaded this project. The concept was born out of their desire to open a space which would encapsulate a strong and vibrant community spirit which is driving the current revolution in food culture. They wanted to create an internal ecosystem where businesses strive forward towards a common goal: working together and promoting local produce. Together, they will be able to contribute towards informing customers and cooperating towards building a more conscious society that is less likely to waste the food that keeps us all alive.
