A Radiant District With a Beaming Community

Montreal, November 27, 2018 – The SDC Vieux-Montréal, in collaboration with the Ville-Marie Borough, is proud to unveil the new elements of its 2018 Holiday Campaign. Originally designed to promote the district’s businesses and cultural activities in December, it has gone from a mere campaign to a wide-reaching, festive and collective movement organized by the SDC Vieux-Montréal and its partners. This year’s multichannel movement will feature a host of new features designed to highlight Old Montreal’s cozy and bustling character, brought to life by its dynamic commercial arteries and warm, welcoming people. With the movement’s partners increasing rapidly, thanks to growing media, corporate, community, cultural and business interest, the SDC Vieux-Montréal is providing an opportunity for visitors to discover, or rediscover, the historical district in the weeks to come, with an emphasis on 4 winter features.
Old Montreal is postcard material in the summer and an enchanting place for a stroll in the winter! Thanks to a major, three-year, $750,000 investment from the Ville-Marie Borough, the historical district will receive a full array of new lights as of winter 2018. Phase 1 of the project, which will benefit from a $150,000 investment from the SDC, will be to install new lights on the Place Jacques-Cartier, as well as on Saint-Paul Street and De la Commune Street. This initial step will pave the way for Phases 2 and 3, which will be carried out in 2019 and 2020. The SDC Vieux-Montréal is committed to providing quality installations that match the district’s heritage and architecture, so it participated in the artistic direction behind the design of the new structures. They will follow this year’s theme, The Tree of Life, and will join the existing and newly renovated lights set up on the Place d’Armes, the Place Royale and the Frères-Charon Park in 2018. This investment from both the Ville-Marie Borough and the SDC Vieux-Montréal will give visitors an exceptional opportunity to experience the best winter activities the district has to offer.
Along with the efforts and investments made to renovate the district’s lights, the 2018 edition of the Vieux-Montréal: Quartier du Temps des Fêtes campaign features a brand-new competition in collaboration with Radio Canada: Lumière sur les vitrines du Vieux-Montréal. More than 50 businesses will go head to head for the most beautiful Holiday storefront, and the public will decide. In casting your vote, you will be entered into a sweepstake with $1,000 in gift cards to be spent at a maximum of 4 of the district’s participating businesses. The three businesses that get the most votes will each be given a prize estimated at $5,000 (in media coverage, promotional tools and cash). *Contest dates: November 26 to December 16. Given that it represents over 40,000 of the district’s workers, the SDC Vieux-Montréal is seeking to bring together the business community and our community-sector partners to lend a helping hand to those in need. Its corporate partners, including the World Trade Centre Montreal, Allied Properties and the Bonsecours Market, have teamed up these past weeks to set up a collection campaign for clothes and non-perishable goods to support the Accueil Bonneau and Moisson Montréal. Collection boxes will be displayed from November 26 to December 14 in the lobbies of the following buildings on: 111, Robert-Bourassa Boulevard; 75, Queen Street; 700, Wellington Street; 350, Saint-Paul East Street (Bonsecours Market), and in the World Trade Centre Montreal’s inner lane, located next to the information kiosk. In keeping with tradition and previous campaigns, the SDC Vieux-Montréal will release an Advent calendar that is 100% Old Montreal, filled with family activities and exceptional rebates all December long. The calendar provides a fabulous opportunity for businesses to showcase their products, and informs Montrealers about festive, cultural events that are exclusive to Old Montreal.
