Kiki is the latest documentary in a quintessential lineage of films portraying New York City’s voguing and ballroom scene. Following The Queen (1968) and the epochal Paris is Burning (1990), it is an up-close and unblinking portrayal of LGBTQ youth in today’s America. Winner of the 2016 Berlinale Film Festival’s Teddy Award for best LGBT documentary film, Kikireveals a scene based on more than just voguing – but one truly built on the concept of self-selected family, societal change, and the broadening horizons of LGBT rights and visibility, with eyes kept firmly on the challenges still ahead.

Following the film, two of Kiki’s primary subjects Chi Chi Mizrahi and Twiggy Pucci Garçon (Garçon also shares writing credit for the film with director Sara Jordenö), will present on the history and culture of vogue and ballroom, from its origins in Harlem to its current international status.
