The Solidarity and Generosity of Old Montreal
November 26, 2018
From November 26th to December 14th, come participate in the large fundraising effort organized by the Old Montreal SDC to the benefit of Moisson Montréal and Accueil Bonneau. This collection event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Allied, the World Trade Centre Montreal, and Bonsecours Market, all of which serve as donation collection points for the whole neighbourhood of Ville-Marie to flock to!
Their lovely collection boxes resembling large presents are impossible to miss. Workers and residents of Old Montreal, it is here where your non-perishable food items and clothing for males will start their journey to help someone else.
“For this pilot project, the SDC will become the catalyst for a donation collection effort to support the initiatives of Accueil Bonneau and Moisson Montréal,” Fannie Pratte of the Old Montreal SDC explains. “Collections will take place in strategic locations that bring in thousands of workers on a daily basis. We provide the donation boxes, and we take the responsibility of forwarding the donations to our partners.”
Is the box full? Don’t panic! It will be emptied shortly and the contents shared between the two organizations that eagerly await the gifts! Also, don’t be afraid to come back later or try a different one of the five collection points around your neighbourhood.
Would you like to brighten the holidays of those who have no one? These are the people who can help! And Aubin Boudreau, director of Accueil Bonneau confirms, “On behalf of the 700 guys that come to Accueil Bonneau daily to receive aid and services, you will help people that you do not know, but that help will bring many people off the streets.”
Accueil Bonneau has been watching over the Canadian metropolis for 141 years now.
“We often say that Accueil Bonneau belongs to the Montreal people, that it’s part of their heritage. It’s a security net that is available for the Montreal community to protect themselves and those close to them.”
→ To help out Accueil Bonneau, frequented almost exclusively by men, you can donate any male winter clothing.
Moisson Montréal is the largest food bank in the country. All year long, they give food items and necessities to community organizations in the isle of Montreal. They have launched their campaign this year called “Feeding the Holiday Spirit”, which is a call for as much help as possible in this year-end period! Sometimes wealth can be gained by sharing.
→ To help out Moisson Montréal, you can deposit your non-perishable food items in the gift donation boxes.
Thanks to this year’s three corporate partners, the five official donation collection points will be located in the following places:
o 3 x ALLIED: in the lobbies of their three buildings in Cité du Multimédia -> at 111 Robert-Bourassa, at 75 Queen, and at 700 Wellington
o 1 x World Trade Centre Montreal : in the inner alley, next to the Information Centre
o 1 x Bonsecours Market: in the lobby, accessible by the 350 rue Saint-Paul Est entrance.
The collection period is from Monday, November 26th to Friday, December 14th inclusively.
